6 months....i wasnt intending to stay for thay long, but the amadeus gds system did fuel up my interest and made me stay for that long. Amadeus system is like a reservation program that assists one to check the availability & book flights/hotels/car, etc (though we never use the latter few). I have been telling myself to make the next move, but everytime something is always hesitating my move and the next moment i know, we had to leave.
6 months....all kinds of people in life I've met, from unreasonable & unrealistic customers to weird people. Not to mention, there are always generous & kind travellers, who make your life easy, but the most memorable are those who demands you to create a miracle for them.
6 months....From a noob who barely knows the travel class everytime i check my air ticket, and now i can confidently remember many travel class & their T&Cs of many airlines. Round the world, airpass, complicated air travels, you name it, i can find a routing for you. Sometimes i really pity the new staff that comes in as the training provided can hardly provide them on whats going on. I'm unfortunately one of them, barely any training and hands-on by myself, gathering help here & there. Of course, help is insufficient internally, i often have to ask external help from experts. Sadly to say, this industry needs some hard-core aviation fanatics that will provide the pillar of strength for the sales figure. It is quite interesting to note that some of my friends totally not into this industry really know their stuff as compared to some in the industry. No criticisms here, but this is a sad fact.
Nonetheless, i will never forget the group of friends i've met mainly wee long, choon yew, jeff, yy, lee tian, louis and our perm-staff Aiden who is always hungry for sales and the answer to all our problems. Not to forget, i will add lucas, but of course, i've met you since 4 years ago...hahahaha. Without my friends support and accompany, i dun think my stay will be that long-lasting & enjoyable...haha.
In view of my departure, i will do an analyst of all the airlines that i've learnt in my 6 mths, the comments from my customers, reviews from my frequently-travelled friends esp to you LX, and my experiences i've encountered throughout my life...starting in alphabetical order:
AmericanAirlines (AA)> For ex-SIN fares, only Q class followed by S class.
> One way fares one of the cheapest among all USA carriers from SIN
> Seats are always available 95% of the time, except for end of year peak season.
> Domestic flights always have problems getting Q/ S class, hence always do married segments
> SIN-Tokyo(NRT) only can do AA codeshare with JL(Q/S class)/ JL-operated flt (Q/S class)/ NH-operated flt(G class)/ SQ-operated flt (K/L class).
> SIN-NRT is a problem for dec08 departure onwards as the sin-nrt on jl, q class is always blocked in advance by airline. It can be overcome by placing other carriers.
> Open-jaws can be done, like SIN-KIX (Osaka), NRT (Tokyo) to DFW (Dallas)
> Stopovers allowed for both directions, how generous
> Tokyo - USA all on Boeing 777-200er The na-na-na plane, like how the Japs always call that plane during announcements. All with personal tv screen. Service relatively the best as compared to their domestic flights. Delays are kept to a minimum. Better than United Air (UA) or some Northwest Air (NW) AA B772 are much newer.
> Do remeber food catered from Tokyo-Narita is one of the most expensive, dont waste them
> Their hubs in USA - Dallas (DFW), from Tokyo, it flies to DFW, BOS (Boston), ORD (Chicago), JFK ( New York), LAX (Los Angeles). The Tokyo-Dallas usually have alot seats in the fare bucket, while the Tokyo-Los Angeles have most of their seats zero'ed out, well, its one of their cash-cow services.
> If flying to inner cities, AA is the cheapest unless NW/UA flies there with one transit point.
> Domestic cities try to avoid MD80 plane...its aging.
> If transferring to American-Eagle operated flight, do take note as their policies do differ and may get your boarding rejected if you do not stick to their boarding in advance timings. Their services differ from AA too.
> Fares are also valid beyond the States, like in South America and Canada, tho' the former will prove a challenge to find seats on the elusive Q class.
> American has loaded the schedule and availability to the GDS for

AirCanada (AC) - star alliance> As confirmed with AC HK office, travel agents here can sell AC fares so long as have the authorisation from them. But still, many avoid because of the possibility of Agent Debit Memo (ADM).
> Q class followed by V class, anything above than Q class, i considered as expensive.
> It is premium-priced.
> One have to take codeshare flight to either HKG (Hong Kong) or (NRT) Tokyo to take their AC-operated aircraft.
> Its better to take the AC-codeshare with SQ to HKG, its on SQ's new B773ER aircraft.
> Its also better to take AC from HKG, it operates the new B77L (long range 772/773) to Toronto (YYZ).
> All B77L, B763ER, selective A319 have the new aircraft cabin. PTVs yes.
> All B77L are brand-new planes, about a year old only, have mood-lighting in the cabin.
> Going to canada on AC from SIN is not the cheapest option.
> HKG to YYZ is highly popular due to the wide asian population in YYZ. Many travel class zero'ed out
> Vancouver (YVR) - Toronto (YYZ) is a premium cash-cow route. Tho' its only 4h+ flt, it cost more than a grand and is mainly monopolised by the carrier.
> Ex-HKG fares to YYZ is cheaper, can mix with other carriers from SIN-HKG to reduce cost.
> SIN-YYZ isnt cheap, after taxes & fuel surcharge will be at least SGD2.8k onwards per person.
> Aiming to fly to YYZ within the next decade, its appealing
> All canada cities IATA code start with a Y in front. YVR (Vancouver), YXE (Saskatoon), YUL (Montreal), YOW (Ottawa), YEG (Edmonton).
> Air Canada's planned cut from Daily to 5 weekly on the
Vancouver - Hong Kong route will be only in effect from 15OCT08 to 10DEC08. It'll operate on Day x13 from Vancouver. Operating aircraft remains 777-300ER.

AirFrance (AF) - skyteam alliance> SIN-Paris Charles De Gaulle (CDG) operated on a brand-new B773-er, tho' the ptv screen alittle small compared to sq.
> AF 257 (SIN-CDG) codeshares with Delta Air, Qantas, but too bad only IATA fare applies if you wanna fly with the codeshare flight numbers.
> Check-in in SIN done together with the KLM (KL) flight to Amsterdam as they are one company merged together.
> AF & KL fuel surcharge increases without prior notice.
> To London Heathrow via Paris, fuel sur & taxes is S$944! from around S$ 580 in Jan08. Now its SGD1058 for tax & fuel surcharge as of 03 Aug 2008.
> CDG apt is always hectic and plagued with queues here & there. There must always be sufficient time to transit at paris apt otherwise flights will be missed.
> Very strict terms & conditions, many fares are non-refundable n changes not permitted.
> There are several tiers of youth fares, all max 12mths tkt, except for the difference in min stay for a few days only. Fare basis is the LPZZSG (for L class), otherwise its normally (LPXSG).
> Occassionally, AF will have promo on the lowest class. Q class. That is worth the value.
> AF 12 mths tkt is costly from SIN.
> Once a particular class is fully booked, totally no more seats for that class, no waitlist permitted
> AF blocks the lowest few classes of seats to promote higher fares on other booking class.
> Prior b4 departure a few weeks b4 hand, AF will start to release more travel class, even on L class (the lowest SGD1160 b4 taxes to CDG, return trip).
> Flying Blue Freq flyer card does not give you miles on the lowest few classes, not ez to accural miles.
> Flies to many cities in Africa & South America, but really costly...3-4k at least.
> Punctuality ok, occassional delays due to CDG side.

AirIndia (AI) - soon to be a Star Alliance member> Not sure how it is qualified to enter a prestigious *A member.
> Old planes plagued on ex-SIN routes
> Delays are frequent, same applies to cancellations
> Service improving....
> One of the cheaper fares to India (V class)
> Air India & Indian Airlines are now one company
> Only the AI 101 from Delhi to New York is worth flying. New B77L plane, the rest are in need of a major revamp. Those to DXB, NRT, FRA,LAX using new B773ER planes are worthy to fly too.
>With SQ/AI codeshare airfares, it is cheaper to fly individual price at the cost of SQ 2-to-go fares on SQ aircraft.
>Effective 01JUL08, Air India will expand codesharing service on Singapore Airlines' operating route, mainly to Australia, as well as additional routes between India, as well as SE Asia and Singapore.
With the codesharing, Air India is codesharing on all Singapore Airlines' service between India and Singapore (except Mumbai)

AirAsia (AK) - m'sia budget air> Many comments about aging planes, lousy service
> Well, they did bought a bulk of new planes, i think the standard is there
> Most of the time punctual, sin-bkk use relatively new planes
> Cheap fares, worth trying, our region's Ryanair.
> Charge everything from food to checked-in baggage
Aeromexico (AM) - skyteam alliance> Hardly anyone knows we have fares all the way to Mexico city via Tokyo.
> Long travelling times.
BritishAirways (BA) - Oneworld Alliance> BA & Qantas (QF) are like brothers & sisters, their fares are the same, can use both their codeshare flights to sell
> My impression is that QF is better than BA.
> Mainly flies B747 planes for either the Aust/London route. All have PTVs.
> One flight flies on a B777 plane
> Fuel surcharge & taxes to London is now SGD 769 (as of 03 aug 08)
> The lowest fare of SGD 998 to London is extinct, all fares increase by SGD 50 onwards wef 20 jun 2008.
> V class lowest fares followed by L class. All mileage non-accural.
> Used to give kids a flight log book to record down their flying mileages with BA, guessed i lost that already.
RoyalBruneiAirways(BI)> No matter how much packages of Brunei onew advertise, i believe they must do an advertioral on the newspaper and tempt people to go.
> Last time BI used to be the cheapest to many places, but not anymore.
> Long transit time, really long
> Old & small planes, not very pleasant for an oil-rich country
> Royal Brunei's Boeing 767 service to the South East Asian region will see minor shuffle effective 01JUN08.
> Effective 02JUN08, Boeing 767 will operate
Bandar Seri Begawan - Kuala Lumpur every Monday
> Boeing 767 service to
Singapore will no longer be operated from 01JUN08.

> On 06APR08 in a press statement it says in order to accommodate a strengthening schedule for summer season, it'll be canceling service to
Denpasar and
Sydney from 01JUN08
> Singapore Airlines and Royal Brunei will cease their codeshare agreement on 31JAN08.
EvaAir (BR)> The carrier with the Hello Kitty livery on its plane, but its being discontinued after summer 08
> Used to be decently-priced, now its a expensive flight to TPE/USA
> With all the weekend departure, add SGD50 and the high & low season, their fares are getting more complicated & hard to sell
> To USA, fares are much beyond SGD2k...
> one of the carriers with weekday/weekend/peak surcharge
> The only sin-taipei with premium econ seats.
> Only worth to fly if its the new Boeing 777-300ER plane which flies on certain days to Singapore.

AirChina (CA)> The national carrier of China
> W class the cheapest booking class
> Promo fares to China are continuous
> Occasionally will have promo fares to North America/ Europe, really cheap
> The only fare to Pyongyang(FNJ) and even fly to Sao Paulo(discontinuing wef 15sep08)
> Some of their new planes have PTVs amazingly
> The CTU/PEK(Chengdu/Beijing)-LXA/URC (Lhasa/Urumqi) is a domestic cashcow route, all their fares are premium-priced and still very popular. It was overbooked when i last sat on it.
> Always call to reconfirm flights, otherwise you will fly on the next flight, lesson learnt for me.
> CA & MF (Xiamen Airlines) always compete for the fares to Xiamen (XMN), so pple flying this route should be glad.
> SIN-CTU/XMN uses new planes (B738/A319), however those flying the SIN-PEK route will get a culture shock to see a old B763 still being deployed on such a reputable route.

ContinentalAirlines (CO) - out of skyteam soon, to be star alliance member
> the cheaper way to fly to newark (new jersey), instead of sq
> highly popular flight, only flies to PEK, NRT, HKG in asia
> codeshares with northwest flight from sin-nrt, very soon it will be gone
> travel class easily zero'ed out
> their hubs are at houston (IAH) & newark (EWR)
> can fly by sq on K class then transfer to the EWR CO-operated flight
> the high-season/low season fares can put people off
> does fly to many south american destinations
> DELTA effective this month has swapped codeshare flight numbers operated by Continental and nwa NORTHWEST AIRLINES.
The new flight number range operated by nwa is DL2100 - 3522
The fnew flight number range operated by Continental is DL6800 and onwards
CathayPacific Airways (CX) - oneworld member
> a favorite among many of my friends, that speaks alot, PTVs on every seat
> seats always available for sin-hkg sector, except high-peak seasons
> sin-colombo(cmb) on half-load or less most of the time, but fares very cheap
> BKK(Bangkok)-SIN mysteriously booked for most booking class available for SIN market, although its on a B744 aircraft, outbound to BKK flight on a B773. One of the better choices than TG if flying to BKK
> Used to fly SIN-CGK (jakarta), from HKG, but not anymore....
> North Asia & North America Specials Farelist really attractive, thats because the booking class available is one of the lowest, like SGD550 to Seoul/ Tokyo on Q class & SGD500 to Shanghai on S class. San Francisco/Los Angeles (SFO/LAX) even have lower deals as booking class is O, the lowest in the fare bucket. But there must be some reasons why NYC (JFK) used N class, otherwise NYC will be so much cheaper. Of all the North America cities, they omit out their premium cashcow - Toronto (YYZ)
> New aircrafts available (B77A) on selected JFK/YVR/SFO/LAX and on certain days, the Asian routes. It has flown to SIN many times during last min redeployments
> Fares to N.America is decently priced, but not to Europe.
> Fares to China can even codeshare with CA/KA (Dragon Air), though many criticisms on those flights
> 2008/09 winter Cathay Pacific will cancel the 3 weekly Hong Kong - Anchorage - Toronto A340-300 service.
